April 2016, Canada – A New Democrat MP has introduced a private member’s bill in the House of Commons that would eliminate the federal tax on certain baby products. Christine Moore, MP for the Quebec riding of Abitibi—Témiscamingue, says the bill would recognize things such as diapers, baby bottles, nipples and certain breastfeeding products as essentials, amending the Excise Tax Act to add them to the list of “zero-rated” goods that are not subject to the GST.
