31 Oct 2014 – The CEN Technical Board has accepted a request from the European Commission (C(2014)5058, issued on 22 June 2014) to develop standards in relation to four different types of children’s seats, namely chair-mounted seats, children’s chairs, children’s high chairs and table-mounted chairs. The standards will address such issues as hazards of falling or entanglement, stability, chair attachment, user manuals and markings. The standards are due to be adopted as harmonized European Standards in support of the European legislation on general product safety (EU Directive 2001/95/EC). This means that products which comply with the standards may benefit from a ‘presumption of conformity’ with the essential requirements in the Directive.
